WGA says "no way" to Golden Globes and Oscars

The Golden Globes may take a flop this year

There's a good chance the jokes at this year's Golden Globe awards, scheduled to air on Jan. 13, will be a bit dry.

On Monday, The WGA denied a request by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Prods. to allow comedy scribes to write material for the 65th annual ceremony on NBC.

The Golden Globes aren't the only ones to get the cold shoulder. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also got a big "no" from the WGA when the Academy asked to use clips from motion pictures and past Oscar shows during the February event. In other words, the Oscars won't be able to show clips of the work being nominated.

It's unclear whether Oscar has asked permission to use writers to help write a script for host Jon Stewart. If the Academy has, and its request is denied by the WGA, Oscar may expect Stewart to improvise.

Golden Globe viewers will have to sit back and see what becomes of the long running show.
