Cancer Survivor Inspires Others With PlansTo Run The Boston Marathon
With a history of winning the World Championships, the Tour Du Pont, and multiple Tour de France stages, Armstrong, 36, qualified for Boston by finishing the 2007 New York City Marathon in 2 hours, 46 minutes, 43 seconds. The Boston qualifying time is 3:15 for men ages 35 to 39.
In 1996 Armstrong was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer which spread to his abdomen, lungs and brain. Lance declares himself a survivor - not a victim - and takes an active role in educating himself about his disease. Armed with knowledge, support and confidence in medicine he undergoes aggressive treatment and beats the disease.
Support for other cancer survivors is offered through Armstrong's foundation, The LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare program. You can call 866.467.7205 to request help dealing with your cancer experience or visit his website at www.livestrong.org.
