United States Senator Edward Kennedy is expected to endorse Illinois Senator Barack Obama for President on Monday.

Obama is a Democratic Senator seeking the Democratic nomination for President. Also seeking the Democratic nomination are Senators Hillary Clinton (of New York) and John Edwards (of North Carolina.)

Sources close to Kennedy told Reuters that the long-time senator from Massachusetts intends to endorse Obama on Monday. The endorsement is said to take place on Monday at American University, located in Washington.

When asked what his immediate response was to the rumored nomination, Obama told reporters that he was not going to make speculations, but that "I have had ongoing conversations with Ted since I got into this race. You know, at the point where he is clear about what he is doing and wants to make it public, I will let Ted Kennedy make it public."

Kennedy's niece Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of former President John Kennedy, endorsed Obama with an op-ed piece in Sunday's New York Times as the candidate who she believed could inspire hope again, likening Obama's appeal to the appeal of her father, also a relatively young man when he took the oath of office.
