Del Toro May Direct "Hobbit" Films
Hobbit fans may soon be able to breathe a sight of relief. According to new reports, director Guillermo del Toro has been in talks to direct the Hobbit film series. The very popular series, written over 60 years ago, was penned by J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien was also the mind behind the Lord of the Rings series, which became a very popular film series as well. The Hobbit series, being financed by New Line and MGM, will still involve Peter Jackson, though he will not be directing. Del Toro's credits include The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. "The latter has received much good attention for del Toro, and was Academy Award nominated itself. The Hobbit series takes place well before The Lord of The Rings, though some of the characters do exist in both. The classic tale has yet to be updated for the screen, as the Writers Guild of America strikes continue, but once a deal is struck, Reuters reports that del Toro and Peter Jackson will oversee the writing of the film.
