The Show Will Go On
28-Jan-2008

The WGA has agreed not to picket the annual Grammy Awards.
After a press conference replaced the glitz and glam of the 2008 Golden Globe Awards, due to the now almost three-month-long writer strike, other award shows began to feel the same threat. But, the Grammy Awards are no longer threatened by the strike.
The Writers Guild of America has agreed to not picket the annual music awards and, on Monday, they made an “interim agreement” Reuters reported. Within the agreement, union writers will take a break from striking and actually write for the Grammys.
Patric Patrone, WGA West President, according to Billboard, explained the reasoning behind the agreement. “Professional musicians face many of the same issues that we do concerning fair compensation for the use of their work in new media. In the interest of advancing our goal of achieving a fair contract, the WGAW Board felt that this decision should be made on behalf our brothers and sisters in the American Federation of Musicians and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.”
The Grammy Awards are scheduled for Feb. 10 in Los Angeles.
