Sanchez a Pirate for Two More Years
Pirates and second baseman agree to terms.
The Pittsburgh Pirates and their all-star second baseman Freddy Sanchez agreed on a two-year contract, Reuters is reporting.
Acquired from the Boston Red Sox, Sanchez has grown into one of baseball's best hitters, winning the batting title for the National League in '06, and becoming a two-time all-star in '06 and '07.
Last year, Sanchez finished with a .304 batting average, 11 homers and 81 RBIs, despite the fact that he suffered knee and shoulder injuries last season. He has a career .310 batting average with 207 RBIs and 22 home runs.
The deal with the Pirates includes a third year option that could earn Sanchez around $19 million over the length of the deal.
