Ledger Died of Accidental Overdose

Prescription drugs found in actor's system led to his death

MSNBC TV just reported that the New York Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the cause of death in the Heath Ledger case an "accidental prescription drug overdose."

The drugs found in his system, according to MSNBC, were Oxycontin, a pain killer; Valium and Xanax, both for anti-anxiety; as well as Restoril and Unisom, both sleep aids. The drugs were all found in the actor's apartment during the investigation.

There were reports that the actor was battling pneumonia as well as being generally depressed about the loss of his relationship with ex-fiance Michelle Williams and missing his two-year-old daughter, Matilda.

Suicide was ruled out early in the investigation and no illegal drugs were found either in the apartment or in Ledger's system.

The actor will be laid to rest in a family plot in his hometown of Perth Australia.

Ledger died Jan. 22 at the age of 28.
