Tony's Embrace the
Australian heartthrob Hugh Jackman is truly the man of the moment. With a number one box office hit in "Van Helsing" and a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical in Broadway's The Boy From Oz. Oz loosely chronicles the life of fellow Australian actor Peter Allen and has gotten rave reviews. Star, Jackman will also do the honors of hosting the show to take place Sunday June 6 at Radio City Music Hall.
Another notable from today's nominations is the musical "Wicked" which is up for an outstanding 10 nominations including Best Actress in a Musical (Kristin Chenowith) and Best Musical. The musical, based on a novel by Gregory Maguire, delves into the early history of the Land of Oz, and leads the Tony's with the most nominations. Taboo, the musical freely based on the life of Boy George funded by Broadway benefactor Rosie O'Donnell ended a run early due to sagging ticket sales and abysmal reviews, however the show garnered up four nominations including Best Actor in a Musical (Euan Morton) and Original Score (Boy George).
On the play front, Pulitzer Prize winning "I am my Own Wife" took home three nominations, competing against British imports, "The Retreat From Moscow" and "Frozen."
