Opinion: The Remaining Weeks in the Election
20-Feb-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril
How can Barack Obama win the Democratic nomination? Read on.
As her candidacy seems to be winding down, it all comes down to three states: Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania, for Sen. Hillary Clinton. With a loss in any of these three, Clinton figures to have relatively no chance in earning the Democratic nomination because of the success of Sen. Barack Obama.
But even with wins in each state, frontrunner Obama can still very easily hold his lead and take the nomination.
The way he can do this is by following the same strategy he implored on Super Tuesday. Just keep the votes and delegate counts close.
If Obama is able to disallow Clinton taking large chunks out of his delegate lead, then Obama should be able to keep the momentum he has gained by winning 10 straight state elections following Super Tuesday.
Following Tuesday night’s elections though, it appears that Obama might indeed have a chance to win Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania, which Hillary Clinton is counting on. Support for this point can be seen by the way Obama has recently been able to build support among women and white working class voters that have been so important to the Clinton campaign.
With her candidacy rambling off the road, Clinton needs to succeed in the forum which has been kindest to her—the debates. There are two debates scheduled between Wednesday and the March 4 election; one of which can be viewed on CNN this Thursday, and the other on MSNBC, with the date and time TBD.
