Love Pleads Innocent, Then Goes Wild

Performer rants in restroom on her trial day.

Courtney Love pleaded innocent Thursday to charges of assault and reckless endangerment for hitting 24-year-old Gregory Burgett over the head with a microphone stand, in a New York night club. If she is charged, the former lead-singer of Hole and once wife of Kurt Cobain could serve up to a year of jail time. The case has been adjourned until June 28th.

After the trial, Love told reporters that Burgett had pressed charges against her with money as a motive, but the details of this claim were unclear.

Love's actions on her trial day were characteristically crazy; on her way out, she touched up a court artist's rendition of her by adding a mustache, and then had an impromptu press conference in the women's restroom, ranting to a crowd of female reporters about her ex-boyfriend Jim Barber, Kurt Cobain's bandmate David Grohl, and her daughter Frances Bean Cobain. She also claimed she wished to apologize to Russell Crowe for ignoring his phone calls about asking her on a date to the Golden Globes.

Courtney Love also faces misdemeanor charges in Los Angeles for cocaine use and for trying to break into Jim Barber's house on October 2nd. As a result of these arrests, she now only has partial custody of her daughter, Frances Bean.
