Many artists saw huge boosts in sales after the award ceremony.
So the Grammys really are worth something.
Winners Amy Winehouse and Herbie Hancock both received huge bumps in sales as a result of the award ceremony, according to Nielsen SoundScan reports.
Winehouse saw a 368% bump in sales of her already-platinum record Back to Black while Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters, a tribute to Joni Mitchell, shot up 966%. Country superstar Vince Gill had a 618% increase for his album These Days.
Other artists that saw bumps in sales were Alicia Keys, Foo Fighters, Fergie, Kanye West, and the White Stripes. The lowest gainer was Beyonce’s B’Day, and Ne-Yo’s Because of You was the only one to lose traction, with a whopping -1%.
The 50th annual Grammy Awards that were held this year had the lowest ratings ever, but obviously its influence is seen in the huge number of enormous sales boosts.
