Actor Claims He Has Never Lost an Oscar Betting Pool
In an interview with “Time” magazine, actor George Clooney, who says he has never lost an Oscar pool, gives his picks for this year’s Academy Awards, “Access Hollywood” reports.
Though Clooney has praise for his own Oscar-nominated film “Michael Clayton,” he is not very confident that it will actually win any Oscars. Of its chances in the Best Picture category, he said, “Our film is the best it can be in that genre. But there’s a ceiling on that genre.” Additionally, “Clayton” will have to face competition from “There Will Be Blood,” “Juno,” “Atonement” and “No Country for Old Men.”
In the Best Actor race, Clooney is positive Daniel Day-Lewis (“There Will Be Blood”) will win. He also thinks Julie Christie (“Away from Her”) will be named Best Actress.
The actor picked Amy Ryan (“Gone Baby Gone”) to win for Best Supporting Actress, but he did have hope for his own movie in this category as well, saying, “If [“Michael Clayton”] has a shot at anything, it’s best supporting actress with Tilda Swinton.”
The rest of Clooney’s picks were:
Best Supporting Actor - Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”)
Best Original Screenplay – “Juno”
Best Adapted Screenplay – “No Country for Old Men”
Best Cinematography – “There Will Be Blood”
Best Director – Joel and Ethan Coen (“No Country for Old Men”)
Best Picture – “No Country for Old Men"
