Actor Tony Randall Dies

Tony Randall dies at age 84
Actor Tony Randall has died in his sleep of complications from a long illness. His wife, Heather, and their two children, 7-year-old Julia Laurette and 5-year-old Jefferson Salvini, survive him. Mr. Randall was 84.
Born Leonard Rosenbergin in Tulsa Oklahoma, Randall was educated at Northwestern University in Chicago and Columbia University in New York. He also attended the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a first lieutenant.
He began his career in the 1940s as an announcer and actor in radio soap operas. In the 1950s, he moved to television and found success as Wally Cox's best friend on Mr. Peepers in 1952 before turning to films. In the 1960s, he played the sidekick in a series of romantic comedies such as Send Me No Flowers and The Brass Bottle. However, he is most famous for playing Felix Unger in the ABC television version of The Odd Couple in the early 1970s.
