Oscars Stay Dry, Despite Rain
24-Feb-2008
Written by: Sam Belkin
The forecast of rain did little to deter fans from coming to watch stars arrive at the Academy Awards.
Thousands of fans stood in the bleachers and streets around the Kodak theatre, the venue of tonight’s 80th annual Academy Awards … in the rain!
The prospect of seeing Hollywood’s biggest stars standing nice and dry and rich under the tent that covered the red carpet apparently greatly outweighed the negatives of getting drenched on Hollywood Boulevard. Those fans that were lucky enough to win tickets in a lottery also remained dry in the bleachers.
According to ABC news, some actors arrived early to greet fans, such as George Clooney, who is nominated for best actor for his performance in Michael Clayton.
The rain wasn’t the only thing that threatened this year’s Oscars. Many were scared that the writers’ strike, which ended two weeks ago, would hinder the ceremony by encouraging stars to refuse to cross picket lines. So there is a double celebration tonight, honoring the year’s best in film and the end of the 100-day strike. The rain did nothing to dampen the spirit.
