Cadet Movie Award for Will Smith
25-Feb-2008
Written by: Sam Belkin

Smith is first recipient of award bestowed by West Point Academy.

A new kind of award was inaugurated into Academy Award tradition on Sunday night: The Cadet Movie Award, presented by the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. The award honors the fictional screen character who best personifies West Point leadership qualities.

The winner of this year’s Cadet Movie Award was Will Smith, for his role as Army virologist Robert Neville in I Am Legend. The movie was about a viral infection that broke out in Manhattan, turning all its victims into crazy night-creatures that feed on human flesh. Dr. Robert Neville lives alone with his dog, working on a cure and hiding from these speedy CGI zombies.

Smith received 27 percent of 2,200 online votes and is the first actor to receive this award.
