One-shoulder and strapless gowns were also popular on Oscar night.
The color red was a big hit among stars on Sunday’s 80th annual Academy Awards, reports The San Jose Mercury News. Katherine Heigl, Helen Mirren, Miley Cyrus, Ruby Dee, Anne Hathaway and Heidi Klum all wore red gowns at Los Angeles’ Kodak Theatre.
Treena Lombardo, W magazine fashion market editor, said Klum, who wore a full-volume gown by Galliano, “was the most beautiful I’ve ever seen her.”
One-shoulder gowns and strapless gowns were also featured on the red carpet. Of the former, Hilary Swank in Versace, Olivia Thirlby in Vera Wang, Hathaway in Marchesa and Heigl in Escada were among the wearers. Renee Zellweger wore a strapless silver lace gown by Carolina Herrera. Stylist and style commentator Mary Alice Stephenson said of Zellweger, “It was a gloomy, cloudy, wet Oscars and she looked drop-dead gorgeous and radiant.” Zellweger was joined in the “strapless gown” category by Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta, Laura Linney in a Michael Kors gown, Keri Russell wearing Nina Ricci, Cameron Diaz in Christian Dior and Amy Adams wearing Proenza Schouler. Adams said of her emerald-green, double-sided silk dress, “I’m just over the moon with it.”
