Ellen Page Backs Out of New Horror Film
Ellen Page was set to star in the new film, Drag Me to Hell, but has backed out of the project because of a scheduling conflict and the possibility of an actors strike. The actress planned to play the role of a woman who has a supernatural curse which she cannot control.
According to Reuters, the Juno actress decided not to star in the film after Ghost House Pictures delayed the original production date of March 17. This delay would conflict with two other movies Page is acting in, one entitled Whip It! and another film called Peacock. An additional factor in her decision is the serious physical training and preparation that are needed for the star's role in Whip It!, which is a roller derby comedy directed by Drew Barrymore.
The Screen Actors Guild's labor contract expires on June 30 and production companies are rushing to finish projects before then, in case of a possible walkout.
Ghost House Pictures must now find a replacement for Page's role in Drag Me to Hell.
