Michael Jackson trial set for September 13

Judge sets date for Michael Jackson to be tried on child abuse charges.

Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville in Santa Maria, California tentatively scheduled for September 13 as the trial date for Michael Jackson to face child abuse charges. Jackson's attorney Thomas Mesereau objected to setting the date, saying the defense doesn't yet have all the evidence collected by the state. He also argued that Jackson's bail should be reduced citing his client's charitable contributions, lack of criminal record and substantial assets.

The judge didn't rule immediately on the bail issue, but left the trial date stand.

The star is charged with committing a lewd act upon a child, administering an intoxicating agent and conspiring to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts. Mr. Jackson did not attend his hearing.
