Bob Barker wrote a letter opposing a planned stunt in which an elephant would be enclosed in a soap bubble.
According to TMZ, former Price Is Right host, Bob Barker, wrote a letter to the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, California, stating that he is against their planned stunt in which an artist will enclose an Asian elephant inside a giant soap bubble.
Barker expressed his disapproval for the stunt, stating, “Such a stunt does not instill respect for these very special and endangered animals ... it sends the message that elephants are mere objects of entertainment.”
After receiving thousands of emails and letters opposing the performance, including Barker’s, the Discovery Science Center announced Friday that they will be canceling the stunt, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“We wanted it to be good, clean family fun, so we're taking away the part that seemed negative,” said spokeswoman Julie Smith.
The Center also received numerous calls from animal rights activists, including In the Defense of Animals, who said that “the show was inappropriate for a scientific institution.”
Bubble artist Fan Yang had hoped to set a record for enclosing the largest living land animal in a bubble for 5 to 10 seconds. The stunt was going to be used to promote “Bubblefest” at the Science Center which is still scheduled to start Saturday, according to the Times.
