Heather Mills Settles for $48.6 Million

The Associate Press has reported that the settlement by the former Beatle has ended one of Britain's most bitter divorces.

Patricia Hollings, a divorce specialist from the London law firm of Finers Stephens Innocent, told reporters, "In the scheme of things, it's quite surprisingly low. It is only offering her about six percent of his assets. In terms of high-wealth cases it's very low." McCartney is reportedly worth about $800 million.

However, the newly divorced 40-year-old Mills didn't seem to think that being compensated at around $34,000 a day while being married to McCartney, 65, was such a bad deal. She told reporters that she was "very, very, very pleased" with her award.

She will also receive around $70,000 a year for their daughter, Beatrice, plus payments for her nanny and school fees.

According to a summary of the court ruling, Mills will get a lump sum of $33 million and will keep the assets she currently holds that are worth $15.6 million.
