Carrie Underwood to Receive Grand Ole Opry Induction

Carrie Underwood will be the newest member inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on May 10.

Reuters reports that country singer Carrie Underwood, who kicked off her career winning Fox Television's American Idol contest, will be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, officials announced on Tuesday.

Underwood, 25, who won the American Idol contest in 2005, captured Female Vocalist of the Year honors at both the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards shows.

Underwood has also won three Grammy awards.

Her induction into the Opry will be on May 10.

The 25-year-old former American Idol winner said backstage that the invitation was a complete surprise.

"I felt like I just won something amazing all over again," she said. "The Opry has meant so much to me growing up, seeing people perform and wanting to do that."
