Emilio Navaira is currently in critical condition.
A Grammy-winning singer was critically injured Sunday after his bus crashed violently into a set of traffic barrels.
Tejano singer Emilio Navaira was critically injured, according to city and hospital officials, after his band’s bus crashed on the highway.
Before the crash, Navaira and his band, Rio, performed at a Houston nightclub. At around 5 a.m. the band’s tour bus crashed into traffic barrels on Interstate 610 northbound in Bellaire, a high-class portion of the city west of downtown Houston, according to CNN.
Other than Navaira, there were seven other passengers injured in the crash, according to Houston Assistant Fire Chief Omero Longoria. Navaira is currently listed in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was being treated in the intensive care unit, says hospital administrator Lisa Lagrone. The hospital would not release the conditions of all of the people still being treated in the hospital.
Navaira and Rio have released in excess of a dozen albums, including Acuerdate, for which they won the 2003 Grammy for best Tejano album.
