Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!, the new computer-animated film that stars the voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, has killed at the box office, according to Reuters news source.
This weekend, 20th Century Fox reports, the movie sold approximately $25.1 million worth of tickets. It matched its production budget of about $86.5 million within 10 days, and that’s only counting sales in North America. It led at the box office in its field for two weekends, the first film of the year to do so. Overseas sales have brought in about $50 million since the film’s opening.
The movie is about an elephant that discovers a tiny planet, which is home to a city called Whoville. Carrey voices the elephant, named Horton, while Carell plays Whoville’s excitable mayor. It is based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name, and it is the fourth feature film from Blue Sky Studios, which gave us Ice Age (2002) and Robots (2005).
