After a bus accident that left Tejano singer Emilio Navaira critically injured, doctors continue extensive surgery in an effort to save his life.
The Associated Press reports that Tejano singer Emilio Navaira underwent more brain surgery to release increasing pressure on his brain.
The Tejano entertainer was severely injured in a crash involving his tour bus, Easter morning.
Yesterday evening, physicians took Navaira back to the operating room for nearly two hours, removing a piece of his skull.
“The pressures in his brain started to creep up a little bit, never became critical, but during the course of the day they seemed to be responding less and less well to some of the medicines we were giving,” said Dr. Alex Valadka, director of neurotrauma services at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center.
Navaira's brother, Raul, who was also injured in the crash Sunday, released a statement saying, “I give thanks to God, not for the accident, but for happening here. It couldn't have happened in a better place.”
“We're just remembering the good times,” he added. “We can't have nothing but hope.”
According to the Associated Press, doctors have put Navaira’s survival chances at 30 to 35 percent. Nevertheless, that number can’t stop family members, friends, and fans from wishing for the best.
