28-Mar-2008

Racist Dutch video causes outrage.
Muslim nations are livid. According to Reuters.com, a Dutch lawmaker’s film that accuses the Koran of provoking violence is causing quite the stir among Muslim leaders.
Reuters.com states that the critic Geert Wilders launched the video Thursday evening on the Internet. Titled “Fitna” – an Arabic term for “strife” – the production intersperses portrayals of terror bombings and the renowned September 11, 2001, U.S. terrorist attacks together with quotations from the holy book of Islam, the Koran.
At the start and end of the video, the Prophet Mohammad can be seen with a bomb hidden under his turban. The film is tailored as a tool to urge Muslims to rip out hate-filled content from the Koran.
Reuters.com continues to highlight that the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) firmly believe that, "The film is solely intended to incite and provoke unrest and intolerance among people of different religious beliefs and to jeopardize world peace and stability."
As mentioned by The Star Online, a Foreign Ministry spokesman of Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, made their viewpoint clear: the film was claimed an "insult to Islam, hidden under the cover of freedom of expression."
