Former “Idol” Contestant Faces Vocal Surgery

After years of singing improperly, Frenchie Davis must endure vocal surgery to sustain music career.
The Associated Press revealed that former American Idol contestant, Frenchie Davis, is suffering from a singer's worst nightmare – vocal nodes. Davis, who found success on Broadway in Rent, will undergo surgery to remove the vocal cord polyp.
Davis is reportedly looking forward to taking care of her condition, as it is a source of vocal fatigue, and hoarseness after performances.
Davis told the Associated Press, "I've talked to other singers who had surgery. One girl said her voice went up. Others' voices got clearer. I'm just excited to see and a little nervous, of course. It's still surgery."
Davis developed a polyp on her left vocal cord – most likely from overuse and singing incorrectly – and it continued to expand, endangering her long-term vocal health.
"I was doing eight shows a week of Rent for four years. When I had a break from Rent, I was using it to sing elsewhere," she said. "Now I need a vocal coach to make sure I'm singing properly so it doesn't come back."
Davis is scheduled to undergo surgery at the end of April, with recovery taking about a month.
