Vegas Magician Loses $5,000 Bet on Partner
After 30 years of building a successful career together, it should be a safe bet on a partner's talents. Not so, with the magic/comedy team of Penn and Teller.
After five years of performing at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Teller could not resist placing a $5,000 bet that his partner, Penn, would waltz away with the mirrored ball trophy on ABC's popular show.
Unfortunately for Teller, the Associated Press reported that the odds were against him. At 30-1, Teller would have won $150,000 had his friend boogied to the end of the sixth season to claim the prize.
Even though he lost $5,000, Teller stood behind Penn's talent, "[He] danced amazingly," Teller told the AP. "He was perfectly in time, his footwork was amazing. I think the judges just have a blind spot for grace in men with size 14 shoes."
He justified his bet by adding, "I have paid that kind of money for ringside seats for famous events, you know, and I think paying five grand to have a prime ringside seat for the dance of the century was a good deal."
