“Friday Night Lights” Will Return After an Unusual Deal Is Struck

DirecTV will air 13 episodes of “FNL.”
In a piece of news that was reported by TheCelebrityCafe.com weeks ago, the return of Friday Night Lights has been made official.
At NBC’s upfronts Wednesday, it was announced that the critically acclaimed football-family drama will air 13 episodes on satellite provider DirecTV, in a rather unique deal that is designed to spread costs for a series that doesn’t attract many viewers.
“There is such a passion for this show among its viewers,” said NBC entertainment chief Ben Silverman. “And although you would hope that passion would have manifested itself in higher ratings,” the new arrangement allows NBC “to have this jewel of a show and not even need to expand its audience to succeed on a financial basis.”
Hopes of the network are very high that the fan base for FNL will be increased with its move to DirecTV with its 16.8 million subscribers and aggressive marketing campaign.
The third season of FNL will likely debut Oct. 1 on DirecTV, according to the Associated Press. Then, after 13 episodes air, it will be seen on NBC.
