Project Runway Is Set to Go to Court!
According to the New York Times, one of the leading hits today in cable television, Project Runway, may possibly be moved to Lifetime this upcoming fall. Despite the parent company for Bravo Network filing a lawsuit and going to court in Manhattan over the Weinstein Company, which violated its rights by making the deal with Lifetime, issues are still occurring. The lawyer for the Weinstein Company, David Boies, stated, "We believe that this lawsuit is without merit. While good for the market for lawyers, it is always unfortunate when parties try to win in court what they have lost in the marketplace."
Reportedly, after one last cycle on Bravo, Project Runway is scheduled to begin on Lifetime in November. However, the Weinstein Company is currently still negotiating with NBC over other rights and clauses in the original contract. Either way, according to Bill Carter, whether or not NBC had retained the rights to Project Runway, the show would eventually have to move off the Bravo network, regardless. Due to initial discussions with the Weinstein Company, the show was guaranteed to be moved to a larger network in the long run. Regardless of which network it is on though, the show will still continue for several more seasons, so as Heidi Klum would say, "See you on the runway!"
