Velvet Revolver

Rock amalgamation does well with new album.

Take one part Stone Temple Pilots, three parts Guns 'N Roses and a dash of Wasted Youth, and the result is a chart topping album by new rock consortium, Velvet Revolver.

Contraband, the band's first album was released on RCA Records; stores sold more than 256,000 copies in the first week, bumping Usher out of his number one Billboard slot.

Dave Kushner [guitar], Duff McKagan [bass], Scott Weiland [vocals], Slash [guitar] and Matt Sorum [drums] played their first show as Velvet Revolver on June 19th, 2003 at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre. The band is now in the midst of its first North American tour.

Contraband beat the combined first-week sales of the latest releases by both GN'R and STP by more than 41,000 copies. This feat proves, according to MTV.com news "that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."
