The Latin Grammys Move to Texas
According to the Associated Press, the Latin Grammy Awards have officially announced their move to Houston, Texas for this year's telecast. The award show, which recognizes the best in Latin music over the past year, will air live, Nov 13 on Univision.
Houston Mayor Bill White, Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa and other local officers made the official announcement. According to White, the move shows that, "Houston is a city of the world, that it's a special city for the Latino population."
Last year, the Latin Grammys were held in Las Vegas. The awards ceremony has also been held in Miami, Los Angeles and New York.
Also in attendance at the announcement was Matthew Knowles, father and manager to Houston-born Beyonce Knowles. In response, Knowles stated, "The whole world will look at us. This is really the first step of making entertainment part of our core here in Houston."
Last year's broadcast reached nearly 12 million viewers. This year's broadcast is expected to be seen by over 100 countries.
