Self Will Stay At Kansas
10-Apr-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril
Self had been rumored to be headed to Oklahoma State.
Bill Self, the head coach of the national championship winning Kansas Jayhawks, will remain with the school, according to the Associated Press.
The move, according to the AP’s source, ends the uncertainty about Self’s future, which seemed to entail Self leaving for the school where he played point guard.
An official statement has yet to be made, but Kansas has called a news conference for Thursday afternoon to address Self’s future.
Self spent much of the day meeting with KU athletic director Lew Perkins.
Self has been asked a great deal, before and after his victory in Monday night’s game, about whether or not he is interested in the Oklahoma State. He has been imminent in saying that he would like to stay at Kansas, but never denied that he would take the job, leading to speculation by many that he was leaving for a school that could out pay anyone in the country.
Since replacing Roy Williams in 2003, Self has been extremely successful with Kansas, going 142-32 with four regular-regular season Big 12 titles.
