Bruce Springsteen Supports Obama for President

Bruce Springsteen publicly endorses Barack Obama for president.

According to the Associated Press, rock legend Bruce Springsteen wrote a letter to friends and fans, Wednesday, in which he expressed his support for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president.

The letter, posted on Springsteen's Web site, said Obama "speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years."

Springsteen has become famous for his lyrics about working-class Americans and their struggles. He envisions living in "a country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit," and believes that Obama will be able to help America reach this goal.

Springsteen and his band participated in the Vote for Change tour in 2004 which was an organization of musicians against the re-election of President Bush. Additionally, he has written an anti-war song, entitled "Devils and Dust," about Iraq.

The rock star defended Obama and the recent controversy surrounding some comments made by the politician. He said the issues are worth discussing, but have been taken out of context and used to distract voters from relevant issues such as war and peace.
