No Midlife Crisis for Madonna
29-Apr-2008
Written by: Ivana Cheong

The queen of pop music continues her reign.

Even as she approaches her 50th birthday, the queen of pop does not appear to be slowing down any time soon. Always an evolving chameleon, Madonna attracts a new crowd with her 11th studio album, Hard Candy, which acknowledges a strong hip-hop influence that the youth has on her music.

The cover may sport a provocative, leg-spread fashion, but the music and the flavor of the album are anything but. eFluxMedia reported that to produce this album, Madge enlisted the work of some of the biggest names in hip-hop music, including Pharrell Williams, Nate “Danja” Hills, and Timbaland. She’s also working with Justin Timberlake and Kanye West. The first single released off the album, “4 Minutes,” was a piece done with Timberlake and Timbaland—and fans have gone crazy since.

This album will be her last produced with Warner Bros. Records, as Madonna has signed a wide-range deal with the famous concert promoter, LiveNation. According to eFluxMedia, this one-of-a-kind deal will have LiveNation and Madonna working together for 10 years, where she is estimated to earn roughly a $120 million paycheck.

Hard Candy bears the same quality and craft as her 2005 work, Confessions on a Dance Floor, a highly successful album that sold an estimated 11 million copies worldwide. This time, with a contemporary hip-hop/R&B twist to her '80s roots, it is no wonder why Madonna is the biggest selling and most successful female recording artist in history.

That is perhaps why Madonna has recently joined the ranks of the great rockers of history such as Elvis Presley and Ray Charles. She is one of the seven 2008 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She first became famous in the '80s with her still-popular singles “Holiday,” “Lucky Star,” and “Like a Virgin.”

Looks like Madge will have plenty to celebrate this year.
