Pink Floyd’s Flying Pig’s Crash Landing
30-Apr-2008
Written by: s. Belkin

Pink Floyd’s inflatable pig flew away during their set at Coachella, discovered next morning.

Roger Waters, the mastermind behind post-Syd Barrett Pink Floyd, has often featured enormous, floating inflatable pigs as a staple prop of his band’s live shows. I guess the message is anything can happen when pigs start to fly.

At the Coachella music festival in Indio, Calif., this past Sunday, the Floyd’s huge flying pig took a detour. It floated away during the band’s set, drifting as far north as Highway 111 before blowing back south, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The festival organizers offered a $10,000 reward plus festival tickets for life for the person who returns the pig to the festival. Unfortunately, it was too late.

Two couples each discovered half of the deflated pig on Monday morning at a country club in La Quinta. Veronique de Turenne of the LA Times reported that “sadly, now it looks more like pulled pork: crumpled heaps of shredded, spray-painted plastic.”

The two couples will split the finders fee, but perhaps all four will now become annual attendees of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
