Jordin Sparks's Threatening Vocal Injury
Jordin Sparks's career could be over as fast as it began. According to TV Guide, this American Idol winner was diagnosed with "an acute vocal cord hemorrhage and had to pull out of the tour," cancelling various tours across the country.
A spokesperson for 19/Jive Records said that she's on rest and expected to make a full recovery. An outside party, Dr. Michael McNicoll, an ear, nose, and throat specialist (not treating Sparks), said that this resulted from overusing the vocal cords, and her voice could change if there's scarring.
Fans have complained that 19 Entertainment, the creator and producer of American Idol, is pushing Jordin Sparks too much. They've made the connection to when Kelly Clarkson suffered similar vocal illnesses during the prime of her career.
Even with two hit singles and a summer tour with the famed singer/songwriter Alicia Keys, Lorraine Ali, a music and culture writer for Newsweek, warns that Sparks must "strike while they're hot. Otherwise, you're in real danger of being forgotten."
