Nine Inch Nails' New Album Is Free on Band's Web Site
Popular rock and roll group Nine Inch Nails has placed its new album, titled The Slip, on its Web site for free.
The move is a growing trend among established musical groups that have seen CD sales plummet and the illegal downloading of their music exponentially increase.
A few months ago, Radiohead performed an action similar to that of Nine Inch Nails, when they placed their album, In Rainbows, online and allowed people to pay whatever they wanted for it. One of the options, of course, was nothing. In a report that surfaced months after Radiohead did this, around 70 percent of people chose to pay nothing for the album.
But where the new Nine Inch Nails album differs from Radiohead's is that fans do not have the option to pay anything for it.
The Slip can be found on the band's Web site, www.nin.com, where the band's singer, Trent Reznor, said, "Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one's on me."
