Uma Thurman and Cosmetics Giant Lancome to File Lawsuits
9-May-2008
Written by: Danielle Terreri
Uma Thurman and cosmetics company Lancome in disagreement over former contract.
French cosmetics giant Lancome is suing Uma Thurman. According to the Associated Press, the actress is demanding $1 million for the use of her name and image on Asian Web sites and Canadian billboards without her consent.
Former advertisement campaigns featuring the Kill Bill star continue to surface in these countries even though the actress’s multi-million dollar contract with the cosmetics company expired in 2004.
Lancome is retaliating by filing a lawsuit against Thurman, claiming the contract exempts the company from responsibilities if any of the advertisements are used by a third party. Thurman’s attorney, Bertram Fields, tells the AP, “I'm delighted that the case will go before a jury. They got an enormous benefit throughout the world after the contract was over, and $1 million doesn't begin to do it.”
