Archuleta's Dad Banned from "American Idol"
It's amazing what five words can say. By encouraging his son to intone, "And all those beautiful girls," during last week's performance of "Stand By Me," Idol producers have told Jeff Archuleta, participant David Archuleta's father, "You are now officially banned."
The elder Archuleta is now prohibited from prepping his 17-year-old son before performing for blatantly disregarding the show's producers and encouraging his son to throw in a bit of Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls." In doing so, copyright infringement required Idol to pay the song's publisher a hefty sum.
Idol lawyers told Archuleta Wednesday that he is allowed to sit in the audience during his son's live performances, but everything backstage is totally off-limits. Since his son is 17, it's Idol's position that David does not need a legal guardian present.
Coincidentally, the senior Archuleta was also banned from backstage a few years ago when his son was on Star Search.
