Hannah Montana Crashes and Burns
11-May-2008
Written by: Melanie Sutrathada

The hit show, “Hannah Montana” has lost over 26 percent of viewers since January.

It appears that the TV spotlight for Disney’s Hannah Montana might be fading. This past Sunday, a mere 3.1 million viewers tuned in for the show at 7 p.m., which aired out of the network’s usual pattern for brand new episodes. According to New York Daily News, the audience for Sunday’s new episode for the show fell 14 percent from the previous episode, which aired less than a short two months prior. Moreover, the show has fallen 26 percent compared to the first original show in January. However, this could mean that the controversy regarding actress Miley Cyrus’s questionable photos in Vanity Fair didn't hinder viewership, because the show could have already been on a decline. Additionally, in the overall audience for the show’s reruns, there has also been a decline.

“With a new season of shows coming up, a new record in July and a theatrical film next year, the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus franchise is incredibly robust,” said, Bob Iger, Disney's president and chief executive officer, just yesterday. As experience shows though, kid franchises such as Hannah Montana that hit the top are good for around 18 months before they begin to sizzle out. Which show will be the new Hannah Montana now?
