“CBS Evening News” Still Unpopular
11-May-2008
Written by: Nolan Maloney

Ratings continue to plummet.

With rumors of lead anchorwoman Katie Couric’s departure from the “CBS Evening News,” Nielsen ratings have hit an all-time low.

Last week’s programs averaged 5.34 million viewers—a paltry sum compared to NBC’s “Nightly News” with 8.02 million and ABC’s “World News” with 7.79 million.

Interestingly enough, CBS led the big four in total average viewers with 9.24 million, with NBC bringing up the rear with 7 million. With those statistics, it’s logical to assume that something’s wrong with “CBS Evening News,” and all signs point to the soon-to-no-longer-be Couric.

CBS executives visited the newsroom April 18 in support of Couric, following several news stories questioning her permanency at CBS. Executives assured viewers that Couric will be at CBS through election season, but she will be up for review if ratings fail to improve.

The rest of the sane world continues to avoid “Fox News” like the bubonic plague.
