Archuleta's Dad Gets Backstage Ban

David Archuleta's father is no longer allowed backstage at "American Idol."

American Idol contestant David Archuleta won't be able to have any more help from his dad, Jeff.

TMZ is reporting that lawyers from the show have approached Jeff Archuleta and told him that he is no longer allowed backstage or in any areas where his 17-year-old son is rehearsing.

According to the site, this decision comes from Jeff's pestering of the producers, vocal coaches, band, and the other contestants. His latest antics had to do with David's performance in last week's show.

Jeff told David to add the lyrics to Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" to his rendition of "Stand By Me." Before Tuesday's show, the American Idol producers had emailed Jeff telling him not to let David add the lyrics because it would cause trouble with the publisher and cost the show a lot of money. During the show, David sang the song with the "Beautiful Girls" verse to the chagrin of the producers.

This isn't the first time Jeff Archuleta has been banned from being backstage at his son's performances.

He was also barred when David performed on Star Search. Star Search judge Naomi Judd reminisced about the interfering father while making an appearance on the Today show saying, "His dad is like the worst stage dad. . . . They had to put him in the security guard's little box."

People magazine is reporting that Jeff's friends are standing by him. They're saying that he's not causing problems and that the real reason he's not allowed backstage anymore is because the other contestants don't have anyone to help them with the arrangements of their songs.

David needed to be accompanied by a guardian when he started with the show because he was only 16 at the time. He is currently one of the top three contestants on American Idol.
