McCartney-Mills Marriage Officially Over
12-May-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril
Neither was present in the courtroom when the decision was administered.
The same judge who awarded Heather Mills 24.3 million pounds of her former husband, Sir Paul McCartney’s, money, officially ended the couple’s marriage Monday.
Justice Bennett, according to the U.K.’s Press Association, “pronounced a ‘decree nisi’ at the High Court on the grounds that the pair had been separated for two years,” which basically means that the couple’s marriage is over.
Neither Mills nor McCartney were present in court at the time of the ruling, with both parties' representation receiving the judgment.
The rather subdued hearing was a stark contrast to the couple’s most recent court proceeding, which saw, according to reports, Mills dump water on the head of McCartney’s lawyer. The reason for her outburst was because she was only awarded 24.3 million pounds, a vast reduction from the 450 million pounds she was seeking.
The following day, despite the efforts from Mills, Justice Bennett released a statement criticizing the former Beatle’s wife for providing “inconsistent and inaccurate” evidence.
