Police raid of DMX’s home leads to charges of animal cruelty and felony drug possession.
A home raid results in the arrest of rapper DMX, real name Earl Simmons, on suspicion of drug possession and animal cruelty, police report.
Suspicions of animal cruelty arose last August after neighbors reported that he abused his dogs. Authorities raided the rapper’s Phoenix, Arizona home and arrested him. Approximately a dozen dogs were found neglected without a source of food or water near them. According to the Associated Press, a SWAT team raided his home again Friday May 9, 2008 at 3 a.m. where police seized five pit bull puppies, weapons, and unspecified drugs.
After initially attempting to barricade himself in his room, DMX, 37, eventually surrendered, the Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office said. The rapper was taken to a nearby jail and released on $7,500 bail. He was charged with seven misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and four counts of felony drug possession. He is due back in court May 15, as reported by efluxmedia.com.
