“Survivor” Finale Ratings Down
12-May-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril
The “Survivor” finale goes along with the trend occurring at all of the major networks.
As a sign of the show’s decreasing popularity in the American culture, the ratings for Survivor’s finale were the show’s lowest ever. But the show is not too concerned because the ratings for each of the major networks are down this May sweep.
Survivor pulled in 13 million viewers, a 4.4 preliminary rating for adults 18 to 49, which was down 5 percent from the show’s 2007 finale. But even with the low ratings, Survivor finished second on the night, after ABC’s Desperate Housewives, which brought in 15.2 million viewers (a 5.5 rating).
CBS narrowly defeated ABC on the night, but ABC dominated in the 18-49 demographic, which is what advertisers value the most.
But against the night’s stiffer competition, Desperate Housewives saw its ratings drop 13 percent, according to Reuters, despite the shocking set of events that occurred on Wisteria Lane that can be read about at TheCelebrityCafe.com.
