News Anchor Asks for Forgiveness After Expletive
14-May-2008
Written by: Jason Townsend-Rogers
A Ch. 4 news anchor lets one slip in an unexpected situation.
People often express regret when they lose their temper; that feeling is made even worse when words that are best kept inside are often yelled out unexpectedly.
This was the case for Sue Simmons, the anchor for WNBC/Ch. 4 news, when she let an expletive loose during an off-camera moment in her 10:30 p.m. newscast. She mistakenly thought that the segment was finished and editing could take place.
It was a mistake that was unbecoming of her due to her long tenure at the company, which began in 1980. One would expect that type of gaffe from a new recruit rather than someone of her level of experience.
Simmons apologized for the blunder, asking her viewers to acknowledge her mistake and forgive her lapse in judgment.
It is not known whether Simmons will be reprimanded for her actions. A similar situation took place three years ago when reporter Arthur Chi’en used an expletive on-air. He was then fired for his actions.
