Prince Caspian Dethrowns "Iron Man" at the Box Office
According to estimates, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian beat out Iron Man this weekend in opening earnings. Iron Man previously stood at the top of the box office charts at $50 million for its opening weekend, but Prince Caspian managed to make $56.6 million. The Disney sequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was expected to debut with a greater earning, but fell short of the $65.6 million the first PG-rated movie earned in 2005. Producers are hoping the C. W. Lewis-based film will continue to earn over the Memorial Day weekend and exceed the $745 million worldwide the first Narnia movie managed to make during its run.
President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group Mark Zoradi said to AOL News, "This is a film that we think is going to play all summer long and it's got nothing but school and holidays in front of it." The third movie to the series, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, is set to release in the summer of 2010.
