America's Next Top Plus-Sized Model
After Wednesday night's finale, Tyra Banks crowed the first "plus-sized" Top Model. Whitney Thompson, a size 8-10 bombshell, told the New York Post, "I'm not going to lose 50 pounds-if someone asks me to do that, I'll go to another [modeling agency]." She added, "I've already heard online from boys and girls all over the world who are dealing with eating disorders, they're thanking me for standing up and saying, 'I am a plus-sized model and I am beautiful.'" Thompson's prize for winning the show is a contract with Covergirl Cosmetics, an appearance on the July cover of Seventeen magazine, as well as representation from one of the top modeling agencies, Elite Model Management.
Speculations have risen that Banks rigged the show for Thompson to win, finally choosing a plus-sized model after 9 cycles of thin girls. Reports assume Banks chose Thompson to win early on in the season, and then allowed her to go all the way to become America's Next Top Model, but the rumors are not confirmed.
