Shania Twain and Producer/Husband "Mutt" Split
After 14 years, country singer Shania Twain and husband/producer Robert "Mutt" Lange have announced they are splitting up. The two married in 1993 and have one son, 6-year-old Eja D'Angelo. Spokesman Jason Owen announced in a statement, "This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time."
Twain told People in 2002, "Our love has always been based on friendship and compatibility," but also added, "We are very different." Speculations rose in 2000 that the couple were having trouble, but they remained together as Twain disappeared from the country music world, claiming, "I needed a break, physically and mentally . . . I needed to leave behind the whole 'Shania' thing and be myself," says People. Shania continued to struggle with her fame, as she told Redbook in 2007, and when her perfume released this year, she said, "I'm not naturally a spotlight person . . . [but] I don't mind being the center of attention in a controlled, comfortable environment."
