George Takei to Wed Longtime Partner

Star Trek actor takes advantage of California Supreme Court ruling.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi aren't the only Hollywood couple to take advantage of the recent California Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage there. Star Trek actor George Takei, the original Sulu from Star Trek, announced over the weekend that he and his longtime partner, Brad Altman, will tie the knot this summer, reported FoxNews.com.

"Our California dream is reality," Takei wrote on his Web site. "At long last, the barrier to full marriage rights for same-sex couples has been torn down."

Takei, who also had a role on Heroes last year, first came out in 2005 in order to talk against a veto by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of a same-sex marriage law.

According to TrekMovie.com, the court ruling will go into effect in June. The couple is currently looking to set a date and a location for the nuptials. For location, Takei is considering the recently restored St. Vibiana's Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles. The actor also plans to help in a campaign to fight any November ballot to amend the California state decision to legalize same-sex marriage which would once again ban it.

Takei stated, "I would like to think that Californians have changed and now know that we are not the stereotypes, but we are everybody, we are your neighbors, your family, your co-workers."
